Soon has over two decades of entrepreneurship experience: started as an entrepreneur developing his business plan in a dorm room at Harvard, then progressed to being an entrepreneurship educator, and most recently championed national entrepreneurship and economic development in a government role.

Soon has been serving on the boards of public and private companies across Asia Pacific — including being the chairman of a public-listed Asian company with market capitalization of US$1.5 billion. He was a council member in the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) from 2016 to 2017.

Most recently, Soon Loo is CEO of the BEDB Economic Development Board which is a central government statutory body to grow and diversify the national economy by attracting investment into the nation. Before this, he was CEO of Darussalam Enterprise, a central government agency for developing entrepreneurship, small and medium enterprises, and industrial sites. He was also a founding chairman of Seri Venture Capital, an investment firm that invests in local companies that have ambitions in regional expansion.

Soon was a Regional Vice President for the AXA Group, where he worked on business development and strategy for the Asia-Pacific region, which spanned 11 countries with a total annual business of US$9.5 billion.

Soon started his career in technology and co-founded a technology company in Silicon Valley that raised over US$37 million of venture capital. The firm went on to be recognised as a top 20 leading emerging technology company for the Red Herring Magazine’s NDA conference.

In his personal capacity, Soon has been a visiting professor and adjunct faculty in universities in the region, including Singapore Management University, Nanyang Technological University, University of Brunei Darussalam, and Universiti Technologi Brunei where he served on the international advisory panel. Soon was awarded top ten business adjunct faculty members while teaching at the Singapore Management University. Soon also mentors young executives both professionally and personally. He co-founded the Passion Unleashed Talk Series in Singapore that features leaders including minister of state, chairmen of listed companies, celebrities, world’s extreme endurance race athletes, and climbers of Mt Everest.

Soon was awarded the prestigious “Ten Outstanding Young Persons of The World” (TOYP) award organized by Junior Chamber International (JCI) and received the honour at Rio de Janeiro for 2013-14. With over 30 years in the current form, the JCI TOYP award aims to recognize active world citizens who excel in their chosen fields and create positive change in society. Past recipients of the awards includes Bill Clinton, John F. Kennedy, and Jackie Chan, all named before the age of 40.

Soon holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Business School.
